Much to the rage of some and the amusement of others, a new spin-off of Saint Seiya got published, illustrated by Chimaki Kuori and supervised by Masami Kurumada.
Is that Chun-Li in the back?!
Honestly I didn't know what to expect when they announced that the new protagonist was going to be a girl named Shō, who seemed to be wearing the Pegasus Cloth. Then, the short prologue came out a few days ago and... well, I liked it. We also got some more details about this new work, which may seem contradictory and/or weird but hell, just think of this as a spin-off:
- First, this takes place right after Saga's defeat at the Sanctuary. I like to think that this entire story may serve as a interlude between that part of the story and Poseidon's chapter and it wouldn't be that unlikely: in the manga, Seiya and the other Bronze Saints ended in a freaking coma after that battle. Hell, even Ikki literally got atomized after receiving a Galaxian Explosion in the face! Disregard the fact that the villain this time seems to be Eris, who already appeared in a movie.
- Shō calls herself a Saintia, who appears to be some kind of personal assistant of Athena. Perhaps they just may state that this is a special category among the female Bronze/Silver Saints in order to avoid screwing the ranks up. I guess we can expect the other 4 silhouettes behind Shō to be part of this category as well.
- Third, according to the name of the technique she showed (Ekureusu Ryūsei-ken), she seems to be the Equuleus Saint (literally, "little horse"), a small constellation which is right next to the Pegasus one and is associated with Celeris, who in the myths, was the offspring or brother of the winged horse Pegasus. So yeah, in a way, she is some kind of Pegasus little sister...
- Last but not least, the drawing style is so NNNNNGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH inducing. I like the design of the Cloth Shō is wearing so yeah, why shouldn't they already make a freaking Myth Cloth of her? The female figures of this lineup end up being quite good and above the average in this collection lol.
I look forward to the first chapter of this new work that will appear in a month. I only hope it gets published regularly unlike Next Dimension which sometimes takes YEARS to continue.
